Monday, May 29 is Memorial Day, an annual remembrance has been observed since the years following the Civil War. It is meant to honor the brave men and women throughout the history of our nation who have paid the ultimate price for freedom. The poem inspired the tradition of wearing a red poppy in one’s lapel to honor the fallen, and red flowers continue to be considered symbolic today.
