Floral Design Day is officially February 28th and is a day set aside to honor and celebrate all the talented artisans whose medium is flowers. Of course, at Mission Viejo Florist, every day is designated for floral designs – it is what we do best! If you are looking for flowers for any special occasion, or you simply want to send flowers “just because”, make sure to give us a call first.
Floral Design Day was originally established to honor Carl Rittner, the founder of the School of Floral Design in Boston. However, it has now grown to be a nationwide holiday that celebrates his legacy, and the many thousands of professionals who perfect their craft every day.
Floral design employs all of the classic elements of any artwork – color, space, texture, and line. When a designer looks to create a new floral arrangement, he will work with each of these disciplines so as to achieve the visual impact he is going for. Whether extravagant or minimalist; streamlined or lavish – the choice of flower variety, color, and shape all come into play. Each design is meant to evoke a certain feeling, mood or emotion.
Different period styles, as well as schools of design from different countries, also influence a designer’s choices. For instance, the romantic period of the Victorian times gave us large, lavish wildflower bouquets; the Art Deco era of the 1900’s provided a geometric, severe style often utilized in tropical designs; and the Japanese art of Ikebana helps to shape flowering branches, twigs, and bushes.
You may be surprised to learn just how much education, time, and experience goes into each floral design we create for our customers. But we would never have it any other way. Mission Viejo Florist is proud to employ some of the finest floral designers in town – stop by and check out their work! Don’t forget to pick up any arrangement for yourself , because every home looks more beautiful with a little bit of art.
