Homecoming is a time of nostalgia, of old friends and new memories. Whether you are headed to the big game or the big dance, this weekend gives a wonderful opportunity to get together with alumni and students and celebrate your school! Mission Viejo Florist has all of the formal flowers you’ll need for the homecoming dance – or any other event planned for this very special weekend.
History of Homecoming: The NCAA historians tell us that the very first homecoming football game took place in 1910 at the University of Missouri. The athletic department extended an invitation for all alumni to “come home” to watch the contest with the University of Kansas. Their idea turned out to be hugely popular, as over 10,000 former students and guests converged on the campus on homecoming weekend. The university had planned other events as well – speeches, rallies, and a parade – inspiring the idea for a full slate of festivities. The following year, the University of Illinois holds the longest record of consecutive homecoming events, at 106 annual events.
It’s Not Just a Game: Homecoming weekend at many high schools and universities still involves a football game, but also may off a chance for students past and present to gather at tailgating parties, picnics and spirit rallies. The homecoming dance and the crowning of the Homecoming King & Queen are also popular events.
Traditional Floral Options for the Homecoming Dance: As with many formal occasions, a corsage and a boutonniere are the customary flowers. But these have grown to also include a contemporary sensibility and design. Floral designers from Mission Viejo Florist are happy to help you to create a unique and modern piece, utilizing vibrant colors, exotic flowers, and artistic elements. A popular alternative to the traditional corsage is the wrist corsage, or wristlet, which presents beautiful fresh flowers arranged on a bracelet of faux pearls, rhinestones or beads. These isn’t your grandmother’s corsage!
No matter your style or preference, Mission Viejo Florist is here to help you to make a bold and bright fashion statement at the homecoming dance!
