Though we’re in the midst of holiday prep here at Mission Viejo Florist, steeped in seasonal centerpieces and soon-to-be winter blooms, we look ahead to the new year with plenty of excitement. And after seeing International Floral Distributors annual trend report, we can hardly wait for 2018. Of the four distinct styles identified, we’ve singled out one to showcase today. It wasn’t an easy choice, but we made it.
One of the buzziest trends on track for 2018 is the new emphasis on bright, bold colors. Say goodbye to the muted, understated hues of 2016 and 2017; the future is bright. This spirit is captured in IFD’s “Folk Art Reinvented” style, where the color wheel comes into sharp focus. This style is upbeat, artistic and full of personality. It’s a blend of the free-form wildflowers look with a more polished modern restraint. It’s basically hippie-meets-country chic, and we think our Calypso arrangement reflects its vibe perfectly.
The flowers here express a fun-loving feeling, but they have a pulled-together look. It’s an approachable style but still feels posh. We love the idea of featuring the most energetic of blooms in a way that lets us enjoy each one. We’ll be working this trend toward individualistic, upbeat florals into our own designs for 2018.
